Who is on the Lord’s side

“Who is on the Lord’s side”

Words: Frances R. Havergal, 1877. & Chris Rohloff 2002

Tune: Chris Rohloff 2002

Who is on the Lord’s side? Who will serve the King?
Who will be His helpers, other lives to bring?
Who will leave the world’s side? Who will face the foe?
Who is on the Lord’s side? Who for Him will go?
By Thy call of mercy, and grace,

Not for weight of glory, nor for crown and palm,
Enter we the army, raise the warrior psalm;
But for love that claimeth lives for whom He died:
He whom Jesus nameth must be on His side.
By Thy love constraining, and grace,

There is a Harvest, and the field are white
Ripe and ready, this is the food of the divine.
Stephen was stone, yet , you bore my strips.

Jesus, Thou hast bought us, not with gold or gem,
But with Thine own life blood, for Thy diadem;
With Thy blessing filling each who comes to Thee,
Thou hast made us willing, Thou hast made us free.
By Thy grand redemption, and Grace

Fierce may be the conflict, strong may be the foe,
But the King’s own army none can overthrow;
’Round His standard ranging, victory is secure,
For His truth unchanging makes the triumph sure.
Joyfully enlisting, and Grace

There is a Harvest, and the field are white
Ripe and ready, this is the food of the divine.
Stephen was stone, yet , you bore my strips.

by thy grace divine, We are on the Lord’s side—Savior, we are Thine!

seems stupid really…

“clean hands”?

I am really just one guy. Who likes playing my guitar and singing songs.

Once upon a time, I had 2 other guys who would perform with me and even write songs with me. But those days seem to be gone. So it just seems silly to have a “band name”.

My name is Chris Rohloff and I, like many others, put new tunes to old hymns. I do it because I enjoy it. Don’t know that I add anything to the “church music” community. But that is yet to be seen I guess.

Point is, when I was in high school and even “college age” I was in bands. With “band names” but now…  it’s just me.

So, this all seems silly.

Love ya…

New songs of celebration render

Currently I am working on a new up beat tune to “New songs of celebration render”. I am looking forward to playing this one live with a band. But for now it will work with just me and my acoustic.

For your enjoyment here are the words:

New songs of celebration render
to him who has great wonders done.
Love sits enthroned in ageless splendor:
come and adore the Mighty One.
He has made known his great salvation
which all his friends with joy confess;
he has revealed to every nation
his everlasting righteousness.

Joyfully, heartily resounding,
let every instrument and voice
peal out the praise of grace abounding,
calling the whole world to rejoice.
Trumpets and organs set in motion
such sounds as make the heavens ring;
all things that live in earth and ocean,
make music for your mighty King.

Rivers and seas and torrents roaring,
honor the Lord with wild acclaim;
mountains and stones look up adoring
and find a voice to praise his Name.
Righteous, commanding, ever glorious,
praises be his that never cease;
just is our God, whose truth victorious
establishes the world in peace.

***There is a story behind why I am working on this song. But it would not be very interesting if I told it…

God is my strong Salvation (new tune)

This is an original tune I wrote for the Hymn “God is my Strong Salvation” by James Montgomery, 1822. The hymn text is from the Trinity Hymnal and based on Pslam 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” I also added a “refrain” or “chorus” of that verse.
To God be the Glory!

Words: James Montgomery, (1822)
Music: Chris Rohloff
From Psalm 27

God is my strong Salvation;
What foe have I to fear?
In darkness and temptation
My Light, my Help is near.

Though hosts encamp around me,
Firm to the fight I stand;
What terror can confound me,
With God at my right hand?

Place on the Lord reliance,
My soul, with courage wait;
His truth be thine affiance,
When faint and desolate.

His might thy heart shall strengthen,
His love thy joy increase;
Mercy thy days shall lengthen;
The Lord will give thee peace.
